Frequently asked questions

Maison CHAPE is wine from Occitanie, no fuss. Here are the essentials — and if your question isn't here, write to us, we reply fast.

The house

What is Maison CHAPE?
Maison CHAPE is the wine house of Erwan Petrus — he embodies it and creates every cuvée. The founding idea: bringing the South-West and the Languedoc together, because setting terroirs against each other makes no sense, and you have to think on a bigger scale, without limits. It's a négociant house (it creates and selects cuvées, with no vineyard or cellar of its own) that wants wine to be modern and easy to read, serious without being stuffy. Maison CHAPE remains THE reference for wine from Occitanie.
Who is behind Maison CHAPE?
Erwan Petrus. It's a house embodied by a real person, not a faceless brand. His conviction: make committed wines and aim for quality over volume — one truly good wine rather than three average ones. You can tell a good bottle by the fact that you open a second one.
Is Maison CHAPE B Corp certified?
Not yet. Maison CHAPE is a mission-led company with a genuine sustainability approach, and B Corp certification is in progress — so it is not yet certified.
What is Maison CHAPE's sustainability approach?
A mission-led company: local Occitan suppliers, waste reduction, organic or low-input wines whenever possible, and B Corp certification in progress. Full details on the Commitments page.

Organic & alcohol-free

Does Maison CHAPE make organic wine?
Yes. The Gaston range is organic, as well as the Chenin (Jeux de Mains), the whole Hautes Craies range, and the Sangiovese and Alicante (Nomad). Elsewhere, we work with as few inputs as possible.
Does Maison CHAPE make alcohol-free wine?
Yes: Kosmo Zéro°, an alcohol-free sparkling rosé. Crisp, fine bubbles, perfect as an aperitif — for drivers, pregnancy, sport or brunch.

Which wine with what? (food pairings)

Which wine with oysters or seafood?
Picpoul de Pinet: sharp, fresh, saline — made for the iodine. Alternative: the Chenin from Jeux de Mains.
Which wine with salmon?
Smoked salmon → Chardonnay (Ciel & Terre). Grilled salmon → Viognier (Ciel & Terre), more aromatic and full.
Which wine with couscous or a tagine?
A supple, fruity red that won't fight the spices: Fronton or Fitou, or a Carignan. Avoid big tannic reds (like Madiran) with chilli heat.
Which wine with merguez or a barbecue?
A well-chilled rosé: ambiance 10° or the Gaston Rosé. For red, keep it supple: Carignan or Fitou.
Which wine with roast lamb?
Pic Saint-Loup, a great classic. Alternatives: Cahors or Faugères.
Which wine with cheese?
Often better in white than red: a Chardonnay or the Hautes Craies white. With goat's cheese, a Chenin works very well.
Which wine to give as a gift?
For someone just discovering wine → the Ciel & Terre range (easy-to-read grape varieties). For an enthusiast → Hautes Craies or Pic Saint-Loup. For something sweet → Gaston Moelleux. The safest bet: we put a gift set together with you via the contact form.
